Dr. Norene is an adjunct professor at both Wayland Baptist University and the Baptist University of the Americas, and a former high school English teacher with more than five decades of expertise in education. Raised by a family with a strong educational lineage, Dr. Norene recalls looking up to her grandparents, both college professors, as a child, and that she “never considered becoming anything else.” She attended Union University, where she worked as a student assistant before graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. The same year, Dr. Norene began teaching at the high school level, working at several schools in the Nashville area before relocating to Georgia in 1985 to accept a position at Shiloh High School, where she continued to teach until 2004. She continued her education at the University of Georgia throughout her career, completing a Master of Arts in English education in 1994 and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership in 2004, with additional coursework in qualitative research.
After a brief tenure at both Oconee County High School and Etowah High School in the early 2000s, Dr. Norene transitioned to teaching at the college level. She became adjunct faculty at Northwest Vista Community College and Wayland Baptist University in 2009, departing the community college in 2014, and began teaching at the Baptist University of the Americas in 2020. Widely beloved by her students, Dr. Norene has been profiled in more than 20 editions of Who’s Who of American High School Teachers and has held a consistently high rank on RateMyProfessor.com throughout her teaching career. She attributes her success to the example and encouragement of her family and to the strength she has gained from her Christian faith. Outside the classroom, Dr. Norene is active in Singing Women of South Texas, and hopes to continue to advocate for public schools and educators.
