Cynthia Lynn Parsons Baer, retired public school teacher and education educator at Lamar Community College and Adams State College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching.
Ms. Baer celebrates more than four decades of distinction as an educator at both the K-12 and postsecondary levels. Her passion for the field was sparked by her experiences as a student, and she recalls being “so impressed” by her third-grade teacher that she knew from that point that she wanted to teach. An alum of Adams State College, Ms. Baer completed a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education in 1975 and a Master of Arts in education in 1976. She began her career as a reading and language teacher the same year and would dedicate the next decade to teaching English language arts to K-12 students in Colorado and New Mexico public schools.
In 1985, Ms. Baer transitioned to adult education as an instructor and the program director for ABE, GED, and basic skills classes at Lamar Community College, and in 1988, she became an adjunct instructor at Regis University. She continued her work with both schools until the early 2000s. From 2000 until 2007, Ms. Baer served as the coordinator for postsecondary enrollment and education services and a member of the teaching faculty at Lamar Community College and Adams State College. She returned to K-12 instruction as a high school teacher for Granada Schools from 2007 until her retirement in 2018.
As a part of her ongoing commitment to children and youth, Ms. Baer remains active as a member of the Kids Kollege committee and the Academy Advancement Program advisory board and serves as a reader for the Southeast Colorado Knowledge Bowl and a judge coordinator for the Southeast Colorado Science Fair. In recognition of her excellence as an instructor, Ms. Baer is a two-time recipient of a Teacher of the Year award and a longtime member of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma. She continues to serve her community as chair of the Children’s Church of Lamar, Colorado, and a member of the Southeast Colorado Transition Governing Board, and is affiliated with the National Association for Developmental Educators and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
