John E. Ash, Ed.D, principal of the Central Magnet School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education and school administration.
Raised by a father who worked as a teacher, Dr. Ash has always had a passion for education and an aspiration to inspire young minds. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and chemistry from Tennessee Technological University and a Master of Arts in administration and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University. He completed his education at Tennessee State University, graduating with an educational specialist degree in 2001 and a Doctor of Education in 2005. He is proud of all of the work he has done as the principal of the Central Magnet School, including sustaining its rankings as the number 1 school in Tennessee for three consecutive years and the number 5 school in America in 2019. Additionally, he has established himself as the head football coach, the head baseball coach, and a coach for both track and basketball.
Prior to his career with the Central Magnet School, Dr. Ash had found success as the principal of Christiana Middle School, an assistant principal at LaVergne High School, and a teacher at Smith County High School and Brentwood High School. Though he taught many subjects, he notably excelled in the areas of chemistry and physics. Throughout his career, he has maintained his affiliation with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals, Magnet Schools of America, the National Association of Gifted Children, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He is proud to have been recognized as the AF Bridges Principal of the year by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association and the Principal of the Year in the State of Tennessee by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 2014, 2015, and 2018. Looking ahead, he aims to move on to higher leadership positions.
