Jan Ketil Solberg, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in materials science and education.

Dr. Solberg celebrates a fulfilling career with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, having established himself as a professor from 1996 to 2014 and achieving emeritus status in 2014. He is gratified to have taught concepts in methodology and optical microscopy to multiple generations of students. Prior, he found success at the Norwegian Institute of Technology as a senior lecturer from 1982 to 1988 and a professor from 1988 to 1995. Dr. Solberg earned a Candidata Magisterii and a Ph.D. from the University of Oslo in 1970 and 1976, respectively. Upon graduation, he began his career as a research scientist at the Institute of Industrial Research in Oslo.

Throughout his career, Dr. Solberg has maintained memberships with the Scandinavian Society for Electron Microscopy and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. In addition, he is proud to have authored and co-authored cascades of international journals concerning various scientific concepts such as the precipitation of copper in silicon, superplasticity in aluminum and magnesium alloys, the abrasive wear of steel matrix composites and the rapid solidification and hydrogen storage properties of hydride forming alloys. He is honored to have been a recipient of the SINTEF Award for Excellence in Educational Activities in 1992. In addition to his professional career, he reflects on a fulfilling career of military service, having served as a sergeant in the Medical Corps Army from 1967 to 1980, a second lieutenant from 1981 to 1985, and a lieutenant from 1985 to 2001. His goal is to be remembered by his colleagues as a hard worker who was easy to approach and cooperate with.
