Inessa Plekhanova, MFA, BFA, Professor of Dance and Director of the Ballet Program at Radford University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in ballet performance and education.
Since commencing her ballet studies at the age of 10, Ms. Plekhanova went on to matriculate at the State Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance in 1986 and a Master of Fine Arts in dance in 1988. A gifted and polished ballerina, she was then invited by the Estonian National Ballet to be a soloist and principal faculty member from 1988 to 1991 before taking her talents to the United States in 1991. For 14 years until 2005, Ms. Plekhanova flourished with the Colorado Ballet as a ballet soloist, artistic director, and principal faculty.
Today, Ms. Plekhanova excels at Radford University in Virginia, where she has been a professor of dance, director of the ballet program, artistic director of the RU Ballet Theatre, and founder and director of the RU Ballet Youth (RUBY) and the International Summer Intensive Program since 2005. Specializing in classical dance, historical dance, ballet history, ballet acting, choreography, and competition preparation, she led the summer intensive to become well known in Japan and South Korea, admitting as many as 17 dancers between the ages of 11 and 19 in one year. Notably, Ms. Plekhanova was the recipient of the Dalton Scholar Award in 2020, the Distinguished Creative Scholar Award from Radford University Foundation in 2014, and the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Youth American Grand Prix Ballet Competition from 2001 to 2003. To attest to her legacy, Ms. Plekhanova can also be found in the 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America.
