Anita B. Hill, Music Teacher at Gary Community Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music.
Having long aspired to become a music teacher, Ms. Hill leveraged her previous experiences in church music and earned a position teaching the subject shortly after holding her initial position as a first grade teacher. Drawing inspiration from her mother, who taught her to play, she attended Lincoln University, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts. Following this accomplishment, Ms. Hill sought a Master of Arts in music performance and general psychology from Valparaiso University.
In her role at Barnett Elementary School, Ms. Hill notably led a choir with over 100 students, who toured the nearby city and other locations for musicals. Having begun her career in 1970, she distinguished herself as a music teacher at the Gary Community Schools for more than three decades. Entering retirement in 2004, she has since given private lessons to various students. As a testament to her success, Ms. Hill received an award for participation in the community. She has also been inducted as a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Teachers Union, AARP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Persons and the American Association for Retired Teachers.
