Before embarking upon her career, she earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Montana in 1989, and subsequently became certified in general education, special education, English as a second language and as a principal. Continuing with her education later on, Ms. Wastjer received a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Jones International University in 2005.
