Charlene Walton, MAEd, MSEd, Dean of Special Education at Ashtabula Area City Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
Having accrued more than 30 years of professional experience in education, Ms. Walton has flourished in special education since learning of her own daughter’s learning disability. Dedicated to better educating students in need of extra help, she first earned a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education from Kent State University in 2000. She went on to attain a Master of Education in early childhood special education from Youngstown State University in 2003 and a Master of Arts in school leadership from Concordia University in 2018. Likewise, Ms. Walton is currently in pursuit of a Doctor of Education in education administration from Concordia University, set for 2023 graduation.
Presently, Ms. Walton has served the Ashtabula City Schools as the dean of special education since 2013, as well as an elementary campus special education supervisor since 2018. Simultaneously, she excelled as an elementary school and intervention specialist for the district between 2013 and 2018. Previously, Ms. Walton had taught second grade, kindergarten and special education at Franklinville Elementary School from 2005 to 2011 and as an early childhood interventionist pre-school teacher with the Conneaut Area City Schools from 2001 until 2005. Between 1989 and 1996, she had also been the executive secretary and chief of nursing at Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
