Irwin Levin, PhD, professor emeritus at The University of Iowa, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in behavioral psychology.

Dr. Levin is a behavioral researcher and professor emeritus at the University of Iowa celebrating nearly five decades of pioneering work studying decision neuroscience, human judgment, and consumer psychology. Graduating high school during the height of the space race, Dr. Levin was encouraged to study engineering and earned a Bachelor of Arts in math from the University of California Los Angeles in 1960. He quickly recognized that engineering was not his calling, and began working in a laboratory, where he discovered his passion for research and an interest in psychology. Dr. Levin continued his studies at the University of California, completing a Master of Arts in psychology in 1963 and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology in 1965. He joined the faculty of the University of Iowa as an assistant professor of psychology, rising to associate professor in 1969 and full professor in 1977.

During his tenure at the University of Iowa, Dr. Levin taught psychology and marketing in addition to spending several years as the school’s honors program director. He was granted professor emeritus status in 2013, and has turned his focus to financial education and further research. He is the author of books including “Experimental Psychology: Contemporary Methods and Applications,” 1995, a former member of the editorial board of Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes and remains a reviewer for the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making. Dr. Levin’s most recent work centers on the decision-making psychology of adults with autism spectrum disorders, and he continues to publish in professional and peer-reviewed journals. He considers the highlight of his career to have been the ability to see a study from conception to publication and the opportunities to collaborate, mentor others, and share information. Dr. Levin is an active member and former president of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making.
