Rima Kasuba Binder, Retired Educator at Barrington Community Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in gifted/talented education.
Before embarking on her professional career, Dr. Binder earned a Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Illinois in 1961. She then matriculated at Northern Illinois University, where she earned a Master’s Degree in reading in 1978 and took postgraduate coursework in 1988. Continuing with her education, she then received a Doctor of Philosophy in administration from Columbia University. Upon completion of her degrees, Dr. Binder became a certified administrator in the state of Illinois.
Dr. Binder began her professional career in 1961, as a teacher with Flossmoor Public Schools, remaining until 1963. In 1972, she joined Barrington Community Schools, where she retired in 2004. Dr. Binder started as a teacher of gifted/talented students and a resource specialist. She became the director of curriculum instruction and gifted programs and she was an adjunct professor at Northeastern Illinois University in the Master of Arts and gifted education program. She then became an assistant principal and was also a coordinator of the gifted program and science program. She also became infatuated with gardens during her time as a high school student, so she became involved in community gardens when she moved closer. In 2015, she became the vice president/Botany Committee Chair of the Friendship Botanical Gardens and she is the president of Lithuanian University Women’s Association U.S.A. As a testament to her success, Dr. Binder received an award from the Parliament of Lithuania and a Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Association of Gifted Children. She is also listed in the 3rd edition of Who’s Who in American Education and 24th edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
