Dr. John Karl Fisher, Retired Academic Administrator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.
Surrounded by family members who were teachers, Dr. Fisher believed that he, too, was destined to be an educator. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Alfred University in 1952 as well as a Master of Science from the same institution in 1953. That same year, Dr. Fisher became a sergeant in the United States Army Chemical Corps until 1955 and continued in this role within the United States Army until 1961. He enrolled in the University of Maryland, College Park, where he worked a graduate assistant for his mentor Walter Waetjen and earned a Doctor of Education in 1964.
Dr. Fisher held numerous positions in the field of education until he retired in 2017. His most recent appointments include consultant at St. Basil College Seminary, president of St. Vincent College and dean of academy affairs at Norwalk Community College. In recognition of his accomplishments, Dr. Fisher earned the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1995, the Distinguished Service Award from Alfred State College in 1986 and the Distinguished Administrator Award from the Edinboro University Alumni Association in 1983. Though he is retired, Dr. Fisher plans to remain heavily involved in community service and is currently the president of the Ridgefield OWLS Club as well as an active member of the American Legion in Ridgefield, CT.
