Cathy E. Martin, Retired Reading Specialist at Rowland Unified School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academia.
Always desiring to be a teacher from a young age, Ms. Martin has excelled as an educator and reading specialist for 30 fruitful years. Retired since 2012, she most recently served as a reading specialist and teacher for the Rowland Unified School District in California, for whom she taught beginning in 1987. Prior to these appointments, Ms. Martin was a teacher at the San Diego School System from 1982 to 1987. Outside of her primary endeavors, she dedicates her time to local charitable efforts, including attending her church and donating to nonprofit organizations. In her post-retirement years, she has served as a Bible study instructor.
Notably, Ms. Martin authored the book “The L.A.P. (Learning About Print)” series, which were a series of books leveraged by the Rowland Unified School District. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of completing the reading recovery course, a one-year-long, four-quarter course. As a testament to her success in the field of education, Ms. Martin received the Ada Mae Warner Award for Outstanding Achievement. To that end, she attributes her profound success to her love of lifelong learning, her passion for educating children, and her accomplishments in commencing the reading recovery program to teach children how to learn effectively. Ms. Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Arts in reading from National University.
