JoJene Landon, Retired Special Education Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.

Devoting more than 35 years to special education students, Ms. Landon commenced her career in 1974 as a special education resource teacher and department chair at Point Pleasant Elementary School in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where she remained for six years. Between 1980 and 1990, she served as a teacher to the emotionally disturbed at Ilima Junior High School in Hawaii, as well as North Valley Schools Inc., the Stockton Unified School District and Serene Community School in California. Most recently, Ms. Landon offered her expertise as a teacher of special education and department chair at Rio Tierra Junior High School and Grant Joint Union High School for 20 years until her retirement in 2010. Notably, she was named Grant District Teacher of the Year in 1997, among other achievements. Attributing her success to her various mentors, Ms. Landon now teaches Bible study in her spare time.

Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in Far Eastern history from the University of Maryland in 1968, Ms. Landon initially desired to spearhead a career as a world history teacher. As time progressed, she shifted her focus to special education, as one of her sons had learning difficulties and she wished to make a difference in the lives of students just like him. Ms. Landon went on to attain a Master of Education in special education from Bowie State University in 1974 and a Master of Science in reading from Johns Hopkins University in 1978. She had also completed postgraduate coursework in severely handicapped education and care at the California State University, Sacramento. Notably, she served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. As a testament to her legacy, Ms. Landon can also be found in editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of American Women.
