Tyler C. Folsum, PhD, Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering and engineering education.
Supported by more than 45 years of excellence in engineering and academia, Dr. Folsum has excelled as an affiliate professor at the University of Washington in Bothell since 2013. Alongside this appointment, he recently founded Micro-AV SPC in Seattle in 2020, in which he leverages his expertise in computing and automating micromobility. Other vocational endeavors to his credit have included serving as president and co-founder of Cogneta, Inc., in Canada, a company that endeavored to commercialize autonomous driving technology. Likewise, he was a senior software engineer and project manager for QUEST Integrated, and held educational positions at the DigiPen Institute of Technology and Northwestern University, where he spent the summer of 2004 in Xi’an, China, to teach computer graphics, machine vision and game artificial intelligence techniques to undergraduate and graduate students. Furthermore, Dr. Folsum has been a principal investigator on projects through the National Science Foundation, the U.S. military and various Fortune 500 companies.
Dr. Folsum holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Villanova University from 1970, a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of Maryland from 1972, and a Master of Science in electrical engineering and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Washington in Seattle from 1980 and 1994, respectively. He is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Washington. A prolific author as well, he has penned “The Goddess at the Helm: Where Technology is Taking Us and How Activists Can Change the Course” in 2017 and contributed more than 50 articles, papers and scholarly publications throughout his career. He maintains affiliation as a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of Toastmasters International.
