Janet Myhre, Professor Emerita at Claremont Graduate University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics education.
Renowned for her illustrious career dedicated to statistical theory and software development, Dr. Myhre has exhibited impeccable skill throughout her tenure at Claremont Graduate University. After serving as a professor of mathematics and statistics for 40 years, she was notably appointed as professor emerita in 2008. She had also been the director of Claremont McKenna College’s Reed Institute for Decision Science from 1975 to 2008. Alongside her primary roles, Dr. Myhre has excelled as the founder and president of the Mathematical Analysis Research Corporation since 1973. In the earlier years of her career, she served as a visiting professor at Washington State University in 1978, as well as a consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and the University of Stockholm between 1971 and 1977.
Dr. Myhre received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics, summa cum laude, from Pacific Lutheran University in 1954 and a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of Washington in 1956. In 1968, she achieved a Licentiate degree in mathematics studies from the University of Stockholm in Sweden. Finding great success throughout the course of her career, Dr. Myhre was named an Honorary Alumna by Claremont McKenna College in 1996 and was the recipient of the Austin Bonis Award from the American Society for Quality in 1984. A fellow of the American Statistical Association, she is currently a member of the Padua Hills Museum Committee and a member of the board of trustees for the Claremont Museum of Art. To attest to her legacy, Dr. Myhre is also listed in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and cooking.
