Herbert Viele Klem, Professor Emeritus at Bethel University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in religious education.
Dr. Klem always felt called to pursue a career in education. After finishing high school, he enrolled at Gordon College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in education and Bible-Greek studies. Continuing his education, he graduated from Hofstra University with a Master’s degree in education in 1963 and attended the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, attaining a Master of Divinity in 1971, then ordained. After spending several years in Nigeria, Dr. Klem earned a Doctor of Global Ministries from Fuller Theological Seminary. Shortly after, he was ordained to the ministry at Bellerose Baptist Church and certified in education by New York State.
Throughout his esteemed career, Dr. Klem has served as an educator at various institutions. His first professional role was as a teacher at the East New York Technology and Vocational High School in Brooklyn, New York. In the years that followed, he spent eight years in Nigeria, lecturing at Titcombe College and, Igbaja Seminary. After earning a Doctor at Fuller, he returned to Kenya to teach at Daystar University and the Wheaton Graduate School as a professor. Dr. Klem excelled as an adjunct professor at Bethel Divinity and University for 21 years, relocating to Northwestern University in 2019. He was also an adjunct at Bethel from 2002 to 2017. In addition, he has lectured and taught classes in Ethiopia, Ghana, Brazil, Cameroon, Thailand, the Phillippines and Liberia. Further, since 1994, he has demonstrated success as the co-founder and chairman of the board emeritus for Global Horizons. As a well-respected individual in his field, Dr. Klem has shared his insights by contributing articles to various religious publications throughout his career. He maintains affiliation with the American Society of Missiology, the Evangelical Theological Society and the World Association for Christian Communications, among other professional organizations. As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Klem is featured in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Religion and the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
