Ward Franklin Mowery, PhD, Retired Teacher at Christian Academy of Louisville, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in music education.
Inspired by the teachers from his youth, Dr. Mowery hoped to become a respectable educator in his own right. After serving with the U.S. Navy in Hawaii from 1955 to 1958, he earned a Bachelor of Science from the Ohio State University in 1962 before beginning his teaching career with the River View and Lima Shawnee Local Schools. Continuing his education, he obtained a Master of Music and Master of Science from the University of Illinois in 1968. For one year, he worked as an instructor at Wilkes College before providing his wealth of knowledge to the Lincolnview Local Schools from 1969 to 1974. Between 1974 and 1999, he found success in various roles, including as a performer with Mowery’s Music Ministry, an associate and adjunct professor at Bluffton College and a teacher at Lima City Schools. Graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University from 1993, Dr. Mowery flourished as a renowned educator at the Christian Academy of Louisville from 1999 until his retirement in 2002.
Reflecting on his career in music education, Dr. Mowery is also distinguished as a musical composer and arranger. Notably, he has performed more than 1,600 concerts with Mowery’s Music Ministry between 1974 and 1984. He has also played music with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Brass Quintet, the Kenley Players Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Wilkes-Barre Philharmonic, the Scranton Symphony Orchestra, the Lima Symphony Orchestra and various jazz groups. Currently, he thrives as a musician with the Southeast Christian Church, Lyndon Christian Church and Maple Grove Baptist Church. The recipient of the Bluffton College Larry Jones Memorial Award, he has maintained his membership with the National Association for Music Education, Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi. As a testament to his exceptional legacy, Dr. Mowery is also highlighted in the 57th through 61st editions of Who’s Who in America.
