Sharmecia M. Jackson, BBA, MBA, CTE Teacher at Tyler High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in business education.

Growing up, Ms. Jackson always knew she wanted to pursue a career in education. Her plans changed prior to attending college when she became interested in accounting. Deciding to follow that path, in 1995, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in accounting from Jarvis Christian College. One year later, she attained a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University. However, after becoming an administrative assistant for the division of education at Jarvis Christian College, Ms. Jackson’s interest in the field of education heightened once again. It was this experience that prompted her to accept a position as a business teacher at Tyler High School in the Tyler Independent School District. Since 2008, she has excelled in this role, as she loves to witness her students gain knowledge and become successful, productive young adults.

Notably, in 2014 and 2015, Ms. Jackson was named Teacher of the Year at Tyler High School. This honor was later accompanied by the Secondary Teacher of the Year Award from Tyler Independent School District. More recently, in 2017 and 2018, she was listed among the Top 100 Business Leaders and Professionals, as well as in Strathmore Who’s Who Worldwide. An active member of her industry, Ms. Jackson maintains affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers, the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators and the Golden Key National Honor Society, among other professional organizations. Reflecting on her multitude of accomplishments, she credits her desire for success. Even as a child, she was never satisfied with mediocrity, which gave her the motivation to always put forth her best efforts. Looking toward the future, Ms. Jackson is considering a transition into counseling, as she encounters many students who struggle with personal problems. Though she loves teaching, her desire to help her students through their issues has begun to outweigh her passion for education. She is excited to see what the future holds.
