Victoria S. Kaprielian, MD, FAAFP, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Medical Education at Campbell University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in family medicine.
Dr. Kaprielian went into family medicine due to her values for long-term relationships with patients, as well as for the opportunity to work with any kind of patient dealing with a wide range of problems. A generalist at heart, she likes dabbling in different areas of the medical field, so family medicine appealed to her from the beginning. As her career has gone on, Dr. Kaprielian feels that family medicine has the greatest potential to influence the health of a population because they work well with public health, do preventive work, offer education and deal with families. Notably, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in human biology, magna cum laude, from Brown University in 1981. She went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1985.
Dr. Kaprielian began her career at Duke University in 1989 and she been affiliated with the institution ever since. She started at the Medical Center as an assistant clinical professor moving up the ranks to professor. Since 2012, she has been professor emerita of community and family medicine. Dr. Kaprielian joined Campbell University in 2012 as a professor and continues to serve as director of the Master of Health Professions Education. As a testament to her success, Dr. Kaprielian was named Alumnae Women of Distinction by Alpha Chi Omega in 2015, received the Outstanding Reviewer Award from MedEdPORTAL Publications in 2012 and earned a Special Award from Duke Family Medicine in 2012. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Kaprielian has worked with thousands of medical students and residents in helping them to commence medical careers. As a devoted educator, some of her proudest moments are her recent developments and programs to teach healthcare providers to be better teachers. The Master’s program she is directing is the crowning achievement of her career and it is getting recognition as an academic degree. To attest to her legacy, Dr. Kaprielian is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in America.
