Turgay Ertekin, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering education.
Having accrued 50 years of professional expertise in engineering education, Dr. Ertekin matriculated at Middle East Technical University in his native Turkey, earning a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering in 1969 and a Master of Science in petroleum engineering in 1971. Serving as a research and teaching assistant and instructor of petroleum engineering at the aforementioned institution until 1975, he went on to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy in petroleum and natural gas engineering at Pennsylvania State University in 1978. Dr. Ertekin remained with Penn State the entirety of his career, attaining emeritus status in 2017. Between 1975 and 2017, he has served as a research and teaching assistant, assistant, associate and full professor and chairman of petroleum and natural gas engineering, associate head of energy, geo-environmental engineering and mineral engineering and George E. Trimble chair in earth and mineral sciences.
Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Dr. Ertekin has authored and co-authored more than 350 technical articles published in petroleum engineering journals and conference proceedings, as well as seven books and five book chapters. In addition, he has supervised 111 Master’s students and 57 Doctoral students. Notably, Dr. Erkekin has received numerous accolades in his career, including the C. Drew Stahl Distinguished Achievement Award in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering in 2019 and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Charles L. Hosler Alumni Scholar Medal in 2018, both from Penn State, among others. Presently, he maintains affiliation with the New York Academy of Science, Chamber of Petroleum Engineers of Turkey, American Society of Engineering Education, Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics and Society of Petroleum Engineers. In five years’ time, he plans to continue his research in the areas of artificial intelligence and applications in reservoir engineering, as well as reservoir simulation such as modeling or reservoir modeling. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Ertekin can also be found in the 58th and 59th editions of Who’s Who in America, the fifth edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the first edition of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
