Annette L. Dwyer, EdD, Professor at the City University of New York, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.
Since the age of nine, Dr. Dwyer knew she enjoyed the function of education, as she loved tutoring and helping young children with their homework. In addition, she was inspired by her second grade music teacher to one day become a teacher herself, as her passion for her field was infectious. In her illustrious career, Dr. Dwyer notably served as a professor at the Bronx Community College from 2013 to 2016. For six years, she excelled as a professor within the City University of New York system from 2013 to 2019. Additionally, she has been a member of the Lehman College Chorus, as well as a volunteer at Harford Community College located in Bel Air, Maryland.
Dr. Dwyer studied health administration at the Bronx Community College and went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts at Augustine University in 2008. In addition, she earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Mercy College, along with a Doctor of Education in English studies. Looking back on her career trajectory, she attributes her success to her parents, as she cites her mother had great morals and ethics and brought up her children to always do the right things. She also credits following the example and influence of strong leaders for her drive and determination. In five years’ time, Dr. Dwyer envisions herself still working with and teaching individuals, along with spending more time with her grandchildren. Overall, she hopes to lead a model life to inspire others who are open to contributing to the realm of education.
Dr. Dwyer is the proud mother of four beautiful girls; Keri-Ann Dwyer, Shauna Dwyer, Desiree Dwyer, and Deniece Dwyer, the wife of Dennis Dwyer, and grandmother of five wonderful grandchildren and daughter of Myrtle Chambers. She has worked in the Yonkers school district, Mt. Vernon school district, as well as, the New York City school district. Working within the City University of New York is allowing her the opportunity and the experience to interact with college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, it is her desire to continue teaching and learning through enrichment activities.
