During his time as an undergraduate at Austin College, Dr. Walker unearthed a passion for educating others when he had the opportunity to teach a laboratory class. Deciding to pursue a career in the field, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1995. Building off this foundation, he became a high school biology teacher in the years that followed. Later, in 2008, he relocated to the University of Ottawa, taking on the role of a biology professor. During his time there, Dr. Walker chose to further his education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in ecology in 2013. That same year, he brought his skills to Texas Community College before moving to Trinidad State Junior College. In his role as a biology professor, Dr. Walker has abundantly excelled since 2017.
Reflecting on his success, Dr. Walker credits the sense of responsibility he feels to protect the changing environment of the world. He loves helping his students become successful, which is what keeps him motivated to continue working, as his students will have the ability to change the world once they graduate. As a testament to his success, Dr. Walker was named the Ethics Champion by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program in 2020. He attributes this accolade and many of his other achievements to the consistent support and encouragement his parents provided to him as a child. Looking toward the future, Dr. Walker plans to continue evolving as an individual and developing his curriculum. As an open-minded individual, he always wants to be a better person than he was the day before.
