Jon C. Haass, PhD, Professor and Department Chairman at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cyber-intelligence, security systems and academia.
Joining Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, in 2001 as a professor, Dr. Haass is an eminent educator whose passion for cyber-intelligence and securities tends back to his prior days as an entrepreneur. Previously serving several encryption and email companies, as well as Sun Microsystems, in varying roles, he entered the education industry to inform the next generation of leaders the importance of cybersecurity in the modern era. Likewise, Dr. Haass has excelled as department chairman of cyber-intelligence and security at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the interim dean, both since 2013. He is renowned for founding the Cyber Intelligence and Security Program at the university, which has been recognized as a center of academic excellence.
Supported by a Bachelor of Science in physics and Bachelor of Science in mathematics, both from the University of Wyoming, Dr. Haass went on to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982. Holding four patents in the field, he has earned several speaking awards and was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2017. He attributes his immense success to his persistence.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Haass intends to continue working on a project, titled “Center for the Future,” in which he is in the process of creating a campus building that can retain students who possess innovative ideas within the realm of technology, including cyber security, global security, block chains and other elements of modern technology. He intends to allow these students to flourish in this environment and provide them with opportunities to obtain internships, co-ops and other methods of employment.
