In 1972, Mr. Cox earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from California State University and soon commenced his career as a history teacher at the Freemont Unified School District. When it comes to his teaching, Mr. Cox attributes his success to his natural ability to work with a large group. He first found confidence as a leader during his teenage years while working with local service organizations. In order to heighten his qualifications, he attained a Master’s degree in counseling from San Jose State University in 1999. For the next 37 years, Mr. Cox excelled as an educator until reaching his retirement. In 2000, he was nominated for Teacher of the Year by his district, which he considers the greatest honor and highlight of his career.
In the following years, Mr. Cox became involved with the Oakdale Lion’s Club, where he was elected president. Though he served in this position for only one year, he cherished every moment, as it provided him with the opportunity to continue demonstrating success as a leader. Reflecting on his remarkable career trajectory, Mr. Cox thanks his faith in religion and the positive influence of both his parents and his grandparents. Outside of his primary endeavors, he has volunteered with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Likewise, when he is not working, he enjoys traveling, reading and gardening. Looking toward the future, Mr. Cox is excited to travel the world with his wife, Pamela.
