Jon L. Mills, Dean Emeritus at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in constitutional law.
Specializing in privacy and constitutional law, Mr. Mills is renowned for his more than 45-year career in legal education and legislation. Upon joining the faculty of the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1973, he has served as a professor of law, interim dean, dean and founding director of the Center for Government Responsibility. Notably, he attained dean emeritus status in 2003 and has been a partner at Consel, Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP since 2008. Prior to his education-focused career, Mr. Mills honorably served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1978 to 1988, having been a majority leader and speaker between 1985 and 1988. In these roles, he is lauded for his efforts in environmental funding and voting rights legislation. Additionally, he was a partner at McGalliard, Mills, DeMontomollin, Smith, Monaco & Sieg from 1980 to 1986 and was a judicial clerk to the Second District Court of Appeals in 1972.
Presently, Mr. Mills is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and holds membership with the American Bar Association, Florida Bar Association, Florida Supreme Court Historical Society, Pi Kappa Alpha, Florida Blue Key and the Florida Supreme Court Professionalism Commission. Finding great success throughout his career trajectory, he was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Daily Business Review in 2019 and was named Most Effective Leader of the House in 1985 and 1986. In addition, he has accepted various awards from the Florida Constitutional Review Committee, Florida Wildlife Federation, Florida Audubon Society, Florida Health Care Association, Florida Chamber of Commerce and more. Mr. Mills matriculated at Stetson University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1969 and a Doctor of Law in 1986. In 1972, he achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Florida and also served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Mills is also listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
