Inell Ramsey Greene, Middle School Mathematics Teacher and Testing Coordinator at Charleston Development Academy Public Charter School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics education.
While taking courses in cosmetology, Ms. Greene’s teacher, Ms. Laura Sims, inspired her to pursue a career in teaching. Ms. Sims was caring to all her students and never played favorites, therefore, Ms. Greene wished to be like her and care for all her students equally. In 1963, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Benedict College and soon became certified to teach gifted and talented, elementary education and middle school language arts. Holding various certifications, she desired to teach mathematics from her innate proficiency and a solid understanding of its foundation. Ms. Greene commenced her career as a middle school mathematics teacher for Charleston County School District 20. Presently, she serves as a middle school mathematics teacher and testing coordinator for Charleston Development Academy Public Charter School.
Looking back on her illustrious career in mathematics education, Ms. Greene believes her most notable achievement has been educating young minds and helping them understand a difficult subject to the best of their ability. Many of her former students have gone on to lead successful careers in various fields and, in some instances, she educates their children and grandchildren. Ms. Greene is especially fond of connecting with her former students over social media and sharing memorable stories. A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, she is also proud to have been named Teacher of the Year on various occasions. In her spare time, she enjoys contributing to St. Patrick Catholic Church, as well as cooking, sewing and spending time with her four grandchildren. Ms. Greene’s advice to aspiring educators is to bring cultural experiences into the classroom and get to know your students on a deeper level by attending after school activities.
