Dr. De E. Irwin, Professor Emeritus at Glendale College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of psychology.
A graduate of Valley College, Dr. Irwin earned an Associate of Arts in 1970 and went on to secure a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, San Bernardino in 1972. After receiving a Master of Arts from California State University, Fullerton in 1974, she concluded her academic efforts with a Doctor of Philosophy from the U.S. International University in 1979.
At the start of her illustrious career, Dr. Irwin worked at her alumna, California State University, San Bernadino as a lecturer in 1973. She further progressed to a psychometrist, before concluding her tenure with the institution as the director of the Learning Center in 1984. Subsequently, she joined Glendale Community College as the chairman of psychology until her retirement in 2006. During this time, she also excelled as a distinguished professor of psychology. In addition to her primary endeavors, Dr. Irwin contributed as a consultant for several organizations and served as a member of the California Statewide Legal Compliance Committee.
A career highlight that has stood out for Dr. Irwin has been witnessing the light bulb go on when a student was able to comprehend a complicated concept. Looking back, she thanks the mentors that encouraged her throughout her career, Bill Linder and John Hatton. The advice or words of encouragement that Dr. Irwin can offer the next generation or others aspiring to work in her profession is that if one is not sure of what profession they love and wish to pursue, then they should go to the place of business and try out numerous roles before coming to a firm decision.
