Ernest M. Wright, PhD, DSc, Professor of Physiology at Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in physiology education.

Fascinated by kidney psychology, Dr. Wright has always had a deep interest in living things and how they functioned. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in physiology and chemistry from the University of London in 1961, he went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in physiology from the University of Sheffield in 1964. Immigrating to the United States in 1965, that same year he served as a research fellow at Harvard University for one year. Dr. Wright joined the physiology faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1967 as an assistant professor, becoming an associate professor in 1970. Since 1974, he has notably served as a full professor, while also fulfilling the role of a consultant to the National Institutes of Health since 1982. Continuing his studies in his native England, Dr. Wright achieved a Doctor of Science in physiology from the University of London in 1978.

Holding numerous patents in his fields of education, research and science, Dr. Wright is an author and contributor to more than 250 peer-reviewed research papers and reviews. Bestowed with numerous accolades, in 2012, he was the recipient of the Homer W. Smith Award from the American Society of Nephrology. He was also granted the Janssen Gastroenterology Award from the Janssen/American Physiology Society in 2004 and was named the Horace W. Davenport Distinguished Lecturer by the American Physiology Society in 2000. Despite his numerous awards, Dr. Wright’s career highlight has been cloning the first transport protein and being elected to the Royal Academy. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Wright is also featured in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
