Barbara Ellen Dotts Soffredine, Retired Educational Administrator at Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health education.

A respected voice in her field, Dr. Soffredine excelled in her 15 years dedicated to the Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District in Indian River, Michigan. Originally serving the district as a student assistance consultant from 1989 to 1992, the executive went on to notably contribute as director of general education and coordinator of health education from 1990 until her retirement in 2007. During this time, she worked with the Health Educators Group and brainstormed innovative ideas to utilize in schools, which led her to write the screenplay for the videos, “Robin: A Story of Student Assistance,” “Bloodbourne Pathogens and Schools” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes.” Prior to her distinguishable roles, Dr. Soffredine was a science teacher at St. Mary Cathedral School for nearly 20 years, from 1970 to 1989, and an instructor of biology at Macomb Community College from 1966 to 1969. Currently, she serves as an occasional substitute teacher at St. Mary’s High School.

Dr. Soffredine achieved a Bachelor of Science in 1963, a Master of Science in 1968 and a Doctor of Education in 2002, all from Eastern Michigan University. From 1964 to 1966, she was a head resident of Jones Hall at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. Throughout the course of her illustrious career, Dr. Soffredine is most proud of receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Comprehensive School Health Coordinators Association in 2007, attributing her success to simply being a good person. Today, she holds membership with the Comprehensive School Health Coordinators Association, American Health Association, ASCS Gaylord Area Council for the Arts and Friends of the Otsego County Library. As a testament to her legacy, Dr. Soffredine is also listed in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the 22nd and 23rd editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
