Dr. Judy G. Tuggle, Retired Principal at Warren Technical School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in special education.
Dr. Tuggle became involved in her profession after teaching special education students in one of her classes. Every time she would drive up, those students were thrilled, which inspired her to be a special education educator. She also became involved on the vocational side of things because she wanted to help special education students become a contributor to society. The favorite part of the day was when she taught special education students. After starting as a music teacher, she switched to teaching all ages of special education students. Dr. Tuggle got into high school special education because the kids needed to learn how to live independently. Realizing it is hard for students with special needs to find a contributing job so they could live independently, she started working for vocational education to help prepare the students for real jobs. Dr. Tuggle earned a Master of Education from the University of Louisville in 1976. From there, she matriculated a Georgia State University, earning the title of education specialist in 1981 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1984.
Dr. Tuggle’s greatest career achievement that she is most proud of is the design and implementation opening of Warren Technical School. She became the principal of Warren Technical School in 2001 and remained until her retirement in 2005. Before moving up to the principal, she was the director of career technology education from 1995 to 2001. Previously she was the coordinator of career technical education, instructional technology, and high school special education for Warren Technical School from 1983 to 1995. Before her positions with the Warren Technical School, Dr. Tuggle worked with the Dekalb County Schools from 1978 to 1983, as a teacher and coordinator. As a testament to her success, Dr. Tuggle was listed in the 4th edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the 17th edition of Who’s Who of American Women.
