Catherine Woodruff, Science Teacher at Brooklyn City School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Having an interest in science for as long as she can remember, Ms. Woodruff felt compelled to give back to her community by teaching students about her favorite subject. Backed by an Associate of Arts in liberal arts, she earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and comprehensive science from Youngstown State University. Later, she went on to earn a Master’s in math and science and a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction, both from Kent State University. Ms. Woodruff was hired as a high school science teacher by the Brooklyn City School District in 2009. She remains there today, continuing to enlighten the minds of the young students who enter her classroom every day.
Looking back on her success thus far, Ms. Woodruff believes many of her accomplishments are a result of her open-minded attitude in the classroom. Further, she maintains a sense of humor in her lessons, which keeps her students interested. For Ms. Woodruff, the most rewarding part of being a teacher is when her former students return to reminisce about their time in her class. Some of them keep in touch with her regularly, which is a sweet reminder of how important teachers are to students. In the coming years, Ms. Woodruff hopes to continue teaching in some capacity because she loves her work.
