Kimberley Norris-Jones, Physical Sciences Teacher at Richland Northeast High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in science.
Ms. Norris-Jones’s family has a history of serving in the military. She felt compelled to follow the rich legacy of military men and women in her family. In 2006, she became a U.S. Army reservist for the 81st RRC and a science teacher for the Richland Northeast High School. She continues in both positions to this day. From 1999 to 2004, she was the head girls track coach and assistant boys track coach for Richland Northeast High School. Previously, she held the positions of a hydrologic technician for the United States Geological Survey from 1995 to 1997, preschool teacher, middle school teacher, a fifth-grade science teacher at Pickney Elementary, and an early childhood education teacher.
Before starting her career, Ms. Norris-Jones received an Associate of Science in geology and earth science from Vincennes University in 1984. From there, she earned a Bachelor of Science in geology and earth science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1987. Rounding out her education, she received a Master of Science in secondary education from the University of South Carolina-Columbia in 2000. Alongside her career, Ms. Norris-Jones has devoted time as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of the United States of America from 1994 to 2002 and as a member of the board of directors for the NSEA.
Ms. Norris-Jones is currently readying for her retirement. She is finding it increasingly more difficult to keep up with the changing classroom environment. As a testament to her success, Ms. Norris Jones was a runner up for the Earth Science Teacher of the Year Award for the Southeast Region of the state of South Carolina. She is also a member of the Geological Society of America.
