Prof. Michael G. Helinger, Mathematics Educator at Clinton Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mathematics.
Mr. Helinger was inspired to pursue teaching due to his passion for learning, as well as his desire for a balanced work and personal life schedule. Commencing his career in 1969, he began working for Clinton Community College as an instructor, moving up to assistant professor in 1974. Excelling in his role for 12 years, Mr. Helinger went on to serve the college as an associate professor of mathematics from 1987 to 2002 and a full professor of mathematics until 2017. Notably, he became the first chairperson of the Mathematics Department in 2008 when the college reorganized from divisions to departments. Additionally, he has served on various committees, including the academic affairs committee, the student retention committee, and the professional development committee. He is the author of the textbook, “Calculus for Business.”
Mr. Helinger received a Bachelor of Science, with distinction, from Clarkson University in 1968. Continuing his education, he earned a Master of Science in mathematics from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1969. Today, he remains a member of the Mathematics Association America, New York State Mathematics Association for Two-Year, Mathematics League, Ski Club, and Pi Mu Epsilon. From his volunteer work, Mr. Helinger was the notable recipient of Certificates of Appreciation from the Clinton Correctional Facility in 1989, 1992, and 1999. Outside of his teaching career, Mr. Helinger has been president and treasurer of Helinger Rentals, Inc. since 1976. He had also contributed as a life insurance agent with William LaCount Associates Franklin United Life for four years and was the owner of Sue’s Beauty Salon in 1984 and B&M Firewood Co. from 1990 to 1992. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Helinger can also be found in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
