Sharon Beeman Kinney, Artistic Director and Owner of the Capistrano Academy of Dance, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dance performance and education.

At the age of five, Sharon Kinney began her dance training in ballet with Norma Taylor and later with Marianne Fitzgerald.  Sharon also studied tap with guest teacher Robert Reed, Jazz with Gus Giordano and Frank Hatchett. She studied and performed vocals at WJR radio in Detroit, Michigan at the age of 13 and studied Drama at Willo-way- Playhouse in Bloomfield Hills, MI. At the age of 16, she was chosen by William Dollar to be a part of a dance company that performed in Europe in 1958. As a gifted performer, Sharon was invited to perform with the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, as well as the Warsaw Opera House in Poland. Upon returning the United States, Sharon was crowned Miss Michigan Sports Queen in 1962 and Miss Chrysler Imperial of 1964 as well as being photographed by LIFE magazine in 1961.

When it came time to pursue a formal education, Ms. Kinney earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance, speech and Drama from the University of Detroit Mercy.  After graduation, Sharon got married, started a family, and opened her first dance and modeling agency.  In the following years, she brought her skills to the Houston Dance Theater and the Michigan Ballet Theater, where she served as resident choreographer. In 1989 Sharon formed her own company, named Living Arts Dance Company which was a pioneer company that took her award-winning preschool Dance syllabus to daycare centers first in the Houston Area and then ending in the Tri-County Detroit area.  Currently, she is excelling as the artistic director and owner of the Capistrano Academy of Dance in South Orange County, California.

Further, she has directed and performed in numerous radio and television commercials and has found joy in serving as a judge for a plethora of dance competitions throughout the United States. Notably, in 2000, the International Dance Teachers Association awarded Ms. Kinney with the Award of Excellence for her preschool dance syllabus.  Looking toward the future, I would like to continue doing masterclasses for studios and conventions and consulting/producing well know ballets for young dancers.  Truly passionate about inspiring, training and encouraging young people in the fields of dance and music, Ms. Kinney does not plan to stop her work any time soon.  Above all, Sharon feels that her greatest achievements are her three children and three grandchildren.
