Dr. St. Elmo Nauman Jr., Retired Professor at Baylor University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in teaching and ministry.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago in 1954, Dr. Nauman went on to earn a Master of Divinity from the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School, now the American Baptist Seminary of the West, in 1957. Obtaining an additional degree in 1959 from the Andover-Newton Theological School in Massachusetts, 10 years later he achieved a Doctor of Philosophy from Boston University. Prior to his retirement, in 1985 and 1986, Dr. Nauman was a professor at Baylor University, drawing upon nearly 20 years of experience as a faculty member at Rutgers University, the College of William and Mary and George Washington University. For his remarkable educational efforts, he was named Teacher of the Year by the College of William and Mary in 1980 and the recipient of a Civic Award from the Iota Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi in 1978. Additionally, Dr. Nauman was honorably ordained to ministry in 1957, going on to offer his religious services to the Alpine Community Church, Newport Congregational Church, Congregational Church of Berea and Chelesford St. Baptist Church.

Outside of his teaching and faith-based careers, Dr. Nauman served as a commander with the U.S. Naval Reserve in Washington, D.C. from 1973 to 1995. In 1991, he was a commander of the third marine air wing at the El Toro Maine Corps Air Station in Califonia before moving to the Naval Air Station in Lemore, California in 1992. In his notable military career, Dr. Nauman was named a National Chaplain by the Association of the U.S. Navy. A prolific writer in addition to his primary career responsibilities, he has authored, “Treasury of Philosophy,” “Fallacies and Logic-the Secret World of Evil Arguments,” “Dictionary of Asian Philosophies,” “Exorcism Through the Ages,” “Dictionary of American Philosophy” and “New Dictionary of Existentialism.” Most recently in his career, Dr. Nauman served as an asylum officer with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service from 1992 to 2001 and an expert witness in immigration court for Immigration Specialists from 2001 to 2004. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Nauman can also be found in the 70th edition of Who’s Who in America.
