Spencer Eugene Reames, Science Educator at Benjamin Logan High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in science education.
Inspired by his family of educators, Mr. Reames has excelled in his more than 50-year career in teaching. After attending Bowling Green State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in education in 1968, he went on to earn a Master of Science from Ball State University in 1978. Notably, since 1968, Mr. Reames has served as a science teacher to Benjamin Logan High School in Bellefontaine, Ohio, as well as chairman of the science department from 1973 to 2010. During this time, he was most proud to have 15 of his students receive the highest possible grades on a challenging project for which they earned a school award. In addition to science education consulting and state science curriculum advising, Mr. Reames was formerly a co-chairman of sub commerce on partnerships for the U.S. Public Health Service and member of the technical advisory committee for State Superintendent Public Instruction.
Finding great success throughout the course of his career, Mr. Reames was the recipient of Outstanding Teacher Awards from the Ohio Academy of Science in 1974, 1977, 1983, and 1986. In 1984, he was named Ohio Outstanding Biology Teacher by the National Association of Biology Teachers and was the recipient of a President Award for Excellence from the National Science Foundation in 1986. To remain aware of updates in education, Mr. Reames is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association of Presidential Awardees in Science Teaching, American Society for Microbiology, Society for Invertebrate Pathology and Ohio Academy of Science. Since 1989, he has also been a member of the Solid Waste Management Policy Committee and Logan Co. Litter Prevention and Recycling Committee.
