David Robert Owen, Psychology Professor Emeritus at Brooklyn College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychology education.
Having accrued 40 years of inimitable experience in the field of psychology at Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York, Dr. Owen notably achieved professor emeritus status upon his retirement in 2014. Commencing his tenure with the institution as an assistant professor in 1973, Dr. Owen was promoted to associate professor in 1980 and full professor by 1986. In addition to his teaching roles, he had also served as an undergraduate deputy chairman of the psychology department until 2014, in which he was elected to the appointments committee for nine elections, spanning 27 years. In an effort to remain aware of changes in his field, Dr. Owen presently holds membership with the American Psychological Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Behavior Genetics Association, and Sigma Xi.
Throughout the course of his illustrious career, some of Dr. Owen’s greatest successes were the studies he conducted on the XYY syndrome, as well as his research in psychometrics, abnormal psychology, and quantitative psychology. A prolific researcher and writer, his most recent publication was, “Fitness Correlates Of Golf Performance, Exercise Enjoyment, And Mood In Senior Women Golfers: 254 Board #75 May 31 9.” Dr. Owen received an Associate of Arts in mathematics from Joplin Junior College in 1963, a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Kansas State College in 1965 and a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Missouri in 1968. He went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa in 1972, as well as a post-doctorate at East Tennessee State University.
