Laura Margaret Campbell, Art Teacher of Middle School Students at the School District of Lee County, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in art education.
Inspired by her mother, who was a talented writer and artist, Ms. Campbell sought to pursue art as a career choice. Drawing upon an Associate of Science in commercial art and Bachelor of Science in art education from the University of Akron in 1981 and 1985, respectively, she first served as an art teacher for the Nordonia Hill City School in Northfield, Ohio, from 1985 to 1992 before joining the School District of Lee County’s Fort Myers Middle School as an art teacher, a position she has held since 1993.
Ms. Campbell has worked with displays for musical productions, ceremonies, dances, and portfolio preparations for students who desire to audition for specialty schools within the visual arts industry. Likewise, she participated in working on the school’s yearbook for 25 years and has maintained affiliation with the Art League of Benita Springs, the League County Art Association, and the Alliance of the Arts.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Campbell was named Lee County Art Teacher of the Year for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic school years. Additionally, she was named Rotary Club Teacher of the Year, was nominated for the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Award, and was inducted into Who’s Who in American Teaching. Looking toward the future, she intends to travel extensively with her husband and seek to become an art therapist. Additionally, she would like to teach at the art league and do volunteer work.
