Dr. Annie Belle Henry, Professor Emeritus at Bemidji State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in higher education.

At the inception of her career in 1966, Dr. Henry served as a secondary school teacher for the Department of Public Education in Bunnell, Florida, for two years. From 1968 to 1983, she notably served as a secondary school teacher of social studies and department chair for the Government of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas. Since obtaining her PhD degree in 1988, she had served as an associate professor of education at Bemidji State University in Minnesota for 20 years until attaining emeritus status in 2008.

A certified secondary education teacher in the State of Florida, Dr. Henry draws upon a Bachelor of Science from Edward Waters College, Master of Arts from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and Doctor of Philosophy from Florida State University. She has been a frequent presenter in the field and an accomplished author, having written “The Girl from Jacksonville Who Dared to Dream, Hope and Believe!” in 2011, as well as “”Feeling like a Stranger in Your Hometown? Ask the Girl from Jacksonville!” in 2017.

In light of her varied accomplishments, Dr. Henry had a locker room named in her honor at the athletics department of Edward Waters College due to her substantial contributions to the college. She has also been a recruiter for African American students and has since contributed scholarship money to students at Bemidji State University. Additionally, Dr. Henry received a Skipping Stone Honor Award in 1997, was recognized by the American Red Cross for her work with disaster relief in 1997, and was honored with accolades from Bryn Mawr College for Women in Higher Education Administration.
