Charles L. Hosler, Meteorologist and Educator at the Pennsylvania State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in meteorology.
From 1943 until 1946, Dr. Hosler notably served in the U.S. Navy, and as a lieutenant, he was instructed to cover meteorology. Although he did not hold prior knowledge of the field, he quickly found that he enjoyed the work. Upon his return from the military, Dr. Hosler enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied aerological engineering. However, he ultimately graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University. He remained at the university for several more years, earning a Master’s degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in meteorology. In 1961, Dr. Hosler was hired as a department head at Pennsylvania State University and he proceeded to establish himself as a successful educator. In the following years, he took on positions including dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, senior vice president of research and a professor of meteorology. Currently, he is continuing to work with students under the distinguished title of professor emeritus.
Outside of the academic environment, Dr. Hosler has found success as a contributor to articles in numerous professional journals. An active member of his professional industry, he maintains affiliations with a multitude of organizations, including the National Academy of Engineering, the American Geophysical Union and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Moreover, he has been honored as a fellow of the American Meteorological Society. As a testament to his success, Dr. Hosler has been named a Distinguished Alumni of Penn State by Pennsylvania State University. He has additionally been awarded by the National Association of Black Geologists. Further, he is featured in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.
