Dr. Laurence Walsh, AO, Professor at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dental education.
A native of Queensland, Australia, Dr. Walsh earned a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland School of Dentistry in 1983. Soon thereafter, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in philosophy from the aforementioned institution in 1987. Six years later, he secured a Doctor of Dental Science in oral pathology from the University of Queensland. Furthermore, Dr. Walsh completed several fellowships with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International Academy of Dental-Facial Esthetics and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
Dr. Walsh excels in several areas of specialty, but his primary focus is in clinical dentistry. With this expertise, he also lectures in infection control, designs and clinical microbiology. Since 1999, he has excelled as a professor of dental science and as the discipline lead for special needs dentistry at the University of Queensland. Additionally, he has flourished as the chief examiner of microbiology at the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons since 1997. In the past, Dr. Walsh served as the head of the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland as well as a dental adviser for the Department of Veterans Affairs from 1997 to 2013.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. Walsh has authored more than 900 publications, 400 technical reports, 50 ADA Protocols and Guidelines, as well as various literature reviews and book chapters. Backed by decades of professional experience, achievements to his credit include advancing technologies used for diagnosis and treatment, including minimally invasive surgery, laser bleaching and laser-induced analgesia. He has also become known internationally for infection control in dentistry. For his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Walsh has been the recipient of numerous accolades from the Australian Dental Association, the University of Queensland, the International Association for Dental Research and the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons, among others.
Dr. Walsh attributes his success to knowing that he has a purpose, as well as to his faith in God. He previously suffered a traumatic brain injury that should have cost him his life under ordinary circumstances, but he recovered with a new sense of reason and drive in life. In the coming years, he would like to continue working on the decorations of major infectious diseases. Additionally, he and his research team are looking to develop solutions regarding difficult to manage bacterial diseases.
