Riley N. Kinman, PhD, PE, LS, Professor Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil and environmental engineering.
After dedicating more than 30 years of service to the University of Cincinnati as an educator within the department of civil and environmental engineering, Dr. Kinman has been honored as a professor emeritus since his 2001 retirement. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Kinman has been an environmental consultant and the founder of RNK Environmental Inc. since 1980. His research activities include the disinfection of water with ozone, elemental iodine disinfection of polluted water, mixtures of halogen treatment and disposal of water treatment plant wastes, as well as solid and hazardous waste disposal. In the earlier years of his career, Dr. Kinman was a scientist administrator in research and development with the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration from 1966 to 1968 and an engineer with the Water Department in Dayton, Ohio from 1959 to 1963. Additionally, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1959 to 1967.
Dr. Kinman received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1959 and a Master of Arts in environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1962. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1965. Holding two patents in water disinfection with elemental iodine from 1970 and in municipal sewage sludge disposal from 2004, Dr. Kinman was the recipient of a Kidney Foundation Grant Award in 1985. Throughout his illustrious career, the distinguished engineer was proud to serve as an Environmental Protection Agency consultant within the Office of Solid and Hazardous Waste in 1985. He also enjoyed his contributions to training operators in the military in the Philippines and various other locations. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Kinman and his achievements can also be found in various editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
