Shandal Emanuel, Physician at Eastern North Carolina Medical Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in internal medicine and pediatrics.
Dr. Emanuel’s younger brother grew up sick with Guillain-Barre disease. She witnessed him go from being on life support to living a healthy life in a matter of years, which was a result of the amazing doctors with whom her family worked. It was this experience that inspired her to become a doctor. In 1994, she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She remained at the university for two more years, earning a Master of Public Health upon graduation. By 2001, she had furthered her education once more by acquiring an MD from the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.
With her multitude of impressive qualifications, Dr. Emanuel was able to begin her professional quest for success as a resident in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Medical College of Virginia in 2001. In 2005, she accepted a position as a physician at the Eastern North Carolina Medical Group. In the years since then, she has continued to demonstrate success in her position alongside earning board certifications in internal medicine and pediatrics. A member of the Association of Native American Students and the Association for American Indian Physicians, Dr. Emanuel attributes her success to her depth of care for her patients. Over the years, she has found that the simple act of truly listening to their stories has proved to result in consistent success. Dr. Emanuel’s motto is, “One day at a time.”
