With early goals of becoming a nurse while living in her native Kingston, Jamaica, Dr. Parchment enrolled at the University of the West Indies, where she pursued initial coursework in nursing. Soon thereafter, she relocated to Miami, Florida, where she earned an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science from Miami-Dade Community College in 1982. Continuing her education, she continued her studies at the University of Miami, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1984 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1987, respectively. Since that time, Dr. Parchment has excelled as a registered nurse practicing in the state of Florida.

After accruing several years of experience in her field, Dr. Parchment returned to college at Florida International University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in 2000. Notably, she has worked for her alma mater as a clinical associate professor since 1995. Prior to this appointment, she found success as a clinical nurse specialist at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami from 1989 to 1995 and a nurse at the South Miami Hospital from 1979 to 1995. At the inception of her career in 1974, Dr. Parchment was an elementary school teacher at the Alpha Infant School in Kingston for five years.

Alongside her nursing and educational endeavors, Dr. Parchment also flourished as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves Nurses Corps, where she served in the 324th Combat Support Hospital in Miami from 1989 to 2003. She has also contributed myriad articles to professional publications over the years and has participated on the board of directors of the mental health committee at the Community Health Center of Miami since 1996. That same year, Dr. Parchment was elected as a research grantee by the Florida League of Nursing.

To remain aware of industry developments, Dr. Parchment has maintained her affiliation with numerous organizations. She has been selected as a member of the board of directors of District 5 of the Florida Nurses Association, a member of the bylaws committee of Sigma Theta Tau and a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Notably, Dr. Parchment is the current vice president of the Jamaica Nurses Association of Florida, for whom she also was appointed as the past vice president, a member of the education committee and a member of the cultural diversity committee.

Among the notable highlights of her career, Dr. Parchment notes that working at Mount Sinai as a clinical educator was most fulfilling as she was able to interact with other nurses. She is also proud of her students who have become successful nurses in their own right. Looking toward the future, Dr. Parchment intends to begin volunteering at her local nursing home and a local preschool.
