Mary A. Zahner, PhD, Art Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership.

Dr. Zahner’s first memory of painting was in 3rd grade. She loved it, but her school did not offer any art programs. In order to explore her newfound interests, her father gave her private lessons. As she became familiar with the paints and paintbrushes, she found a true passion for art. In 1960, she graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. With that, she began teaching at local schools in her area, proceeding to return to the university, and earn a Master’s degree in 1969. In the following years, Dr. Zahner took on various university teaching positions prior to earning a PhD from her alma mater in 1987.

In 2008, the University of Dayton distinguished Dr. Zahner as a professor emerita after she proved her excellence in the eight years following her initial hire. In the subsequent years, she continued to educate the art community through numerous presentations as a visitor to established universities, including the School of Visual Arts at the Pennsylvania State University. She has additionally found success in her written work, contributing numerous chapters to books and publishing, “Barkan,” in 2003. As a result of her professional success, Dr. Zahner received the Institute Faculty Award from the Ohio Partnership for Visual Arts in 1989. Earlier, in 1969, her work earned the Best of Show Award from the Canton Art Institute. Further, she is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
