James Enderby Bidlack, PhD, Professor of Biology at the University of Central Oklahoma, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Dr. Bidlack’s father was the scientist who served as his introduction to the field. Inspired by his hard-working parent, he proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Science in agronomy from Purdue University in 1984. In the following years, he furthered his education with a Master’s in crop physiology from the University of Arkansas and a PhD in plant physiology from Iowa State University. Post-graduation, he began his professional endeavors as a laboratory instructor at the University of Arkansas. In 1990, he became an assistant professor in the biology department at the University of Central Oklahoma. He has remained there in the years since, advancing to his current role as a professor in 2002.
As an active participant in his industry, Dr. Bidlack maintains affiliation with numerous professional organizations. He is a life member of the Botanical Society of America, the Oklahoma Academy of Sciences, and the Plant Growth Regulation Society of America, among several other groups. He has additionally found success as an author. He considers the highlight of his career to be the publication of his book, “Introductory Plant Biology.” It has since been updated to its 15th edition.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bidlack has found joy in sharing his experiences as a presenter at both local and national conferences. Outside of his primary positions, he is currently acting as the chief science officer for The Genome Registry, as well as the president and executive director for the Metabolism Foundation. In light of his myriad accomplishments, Dr. Bidlack has been abundantly awarded. Most recently, in 2019, he was presented with the House Cup by the MERLOT Biology Editorial Board Team. Likewise, he is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, as well as the 25th edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and the 65th edition of Who’s Who in America.
