Dale M. Walker ICMA-CM, CGFM, City Manager at City of Lake Butler, Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in government.
Distinguished for his exceptional career spanning over 50 years in government, Mr. Walker currently serves as the city manager for the City of Butler, Florida. Additionally, since 2019, he has taught business as an adjunct professor at Florida Gateway College, and he also teaches a small group of inmates weekly who are working towards achieving their Associate’s degrees. Mr. Walker is on his “third” retirement, as he continues to come back and find ways to help in his community. In recognition of his years of career achievement, he holds a District Budget Award for his excellence in financial reporting from GFOA. He attributes his success to hard work, as well as working with teams of smart and driven individuals.
Prior to his current roles, Mr. Walker was the county manager of Macon-Bibb County in Georgia from 2014 to 2017, as well as the chief administrative officer of the City of Macon from 2011 to 2014. Before notably serving as the chief financial officer of the District of Columbia Police and Fire Retirement System, he was the director of finance for the city of Suffolk, Virginia. Mr. Walker had his first taste of the industry as director of finance for the City of Owosso from 1970 to 1975 and as an internal auditor for John Wesley College. He was also the corporate treasurer of Michigan Baptist Homes for one year. From 1997 to 2007, he took on the role of the director of finance and deputy city manager for City Cadillac.
Prior to spearheading his career, Mr. Walker received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. He went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Central Michigan University in 1981. Additionally, he became certified as a government financial manager through the Association of Government Accountants and a credentialed manager through the International City/County Management Association.
Today, Mr. Walker holds membership with numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Human Resources, Florida City/County Managers, and the Florida Government Finance Officers Association. He also sits on the North Central Florida Tourism Board and was voted to be chairman of the board of directors for the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan. Mr. Walker was also previously on the board for the City of Macon Employees Retirement System from 2011 to 2017.
