Sarah Lucille Jones, Retired Principal at Mercer County Technical Schools, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education administration.
Ms. Jones became involved in her profession because of her desire to make a difference in her community. In addition, what inspired her to go into teaching was the teachers that she had. She had two teachers one was the school librarian at the library where Ms. Jones worked as a school library assistant. She was very influential because she would always tell them that once they make a decision on what they want, they have the ability to go for it. The other was one of her teachers who was also an advisor for the after school clubs, and she would inspire Ms. Jones. She would also help if they had a challenge with transportation, she would take time from her schedule to provide it for the students. Ms. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in home economics education from South Carolina State University in 1970. She then received a Master of Science in human behavior and development from Drexel University in 1974.
The highlight of Ms. Jones’ career has been witnessing the success of her students. She started her career as a headteacher at Pre-Kindergarten Head Start from 1970 to 1976. She then became a teacher with the Rochester City Schools from 1979 to 1982. In 1982, Ms. Jones joined the Freehold Regional High School District, remaining with the school until 2004. While there, she took the roles of teacher and department supervisor of applied technology. From 1989 to 1995, she was also an education specialist with Brookdale Community College. In 2004, Ms. Jones became the principal of Mercer County Technical Schools, until her retirement in 2014. As a testament to her success, she was nominated Teacher of the Year in 1999.
