Josephine Catherine Coluccio, Primary and Elementary School Teacher at Little Explorers, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursery and elementary education.
Since she was a child, Ms. Coluccio had a natural love for helping others, and especially children. She saw God sending her as a steward for children, and so she chose to formally pursue a career as an educator. Ms. Coluccio earned a BA in Education, Cum Laude, from Brooklyn College in 1974 and is certified to teach nursery, kindergarten and elementary in the states of New York and New Jersey. Since 1990, Ms. Coluccio has excelled as the owner and the operator of Little Explorers: An Ed-U-Care Program, in Toms River, New Jersey, and from 1983 to 1990 she was the owner and director of the Little Yellow House. Ms. Coluccio is very proud to have provided a highly structured curriculum for preschoolers for growth and development for nearly 35 years.
Backed by more than 40 years of experience in teaching, Ms. Coluccio commenced her career in 1974 as an elementary mathematics and science teacher coordinator at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn. Four years later, she took on the role of public relations coordinator for the McDonald’s Corporation on Staten Island until 1978, and from 1979 to 1983, she served as a daycare group teacher with the Congress of Italian American Organizations in Brooklyn. During 1980 to 1983, she served as a sixth grade teacher on a departmental level. Notably, in 2007, she received a Catholic Charities Award for Community Partnership.
In addition to her career in education, Ms. Coluccio is a strong supporter of veterans and the military. For her great service to supporting troops, Ms. Coluccio has received Letters of Commendation from the Army and Navy for videos and murals providing recreational therapy for wounded warriors, and also received an American flag flown over Afghanistan for military works and DVD video performances for war heroes overseas in combat. Additionally, in 1991, she was an Active Rep. for the National Committee in Washington, D.C. Ms. Coluccio is the author of a poetry collection, “Soldier’s Prayer” from 2003, and several musical tributes, including a musical and video adaptation of “The Pledge of Allegiance.”
A contributor to the Artistic Newsletter of New Jersey since 2004, Ms. Coluccio is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Association for Education Young Children, American Family Association, National Safety Council, Society Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, NASE, Children’s Home Society and the New Jersey Registry. In five years’ time, she hopes to have more books published, and work with even more children in order to broaden their taste for literature, poetry and short stories. To attest to her success as an educator, Ms. Coluccio can also be found in editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
