Dr. Christensen became involved in his profession because dental and medical were biological and physical in science and he felt that both fields were lacking in social science so, that was what took him to that. He had counseled people with Bulimia and athletic injuries. He became involved as a Prosthodontist because it took people back to where they were, people who were in car wrecks, had cancer, cleft palates, and amputations. He believed the psychology blended well with it, especially if they were to be in a relationship or get married as well as with their family. Dr. Christensen earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California in 1960. He then received a Master of Science in Dentistry from the University of Washington in 1963. Dr. Christensen has presented over 45,000 hours of continuing education throughout the world and has published hundreds of articles or books. Dr. Christensen began his career as an assistant professor with the University of Washington in 1962, remaining until 1965. He then went to the University of Kentucky in 1965 as an associate professor until 1968. Going back west, Dr. Christensen became a professor and associate dean for the University of Colorado-Denver from 1968 until 1976. From 1976 to 1987, he took on the role of co-director of Clinical Research Associates. In 1976, he also became a prosthodontist for his company, Gordon J. Christensen Professional Corporation, and continues in that practice to this day. He is currently a chief executive officer for Gordon J. Christensen Practical Clinical Courses since 1981 and for CR Foundation Associates since 1987.
